February, 2007

Dear Springfield Township School District,

February ushers in the third marking period and preparation for the New Jersey Department of Education Testing schedule. Statewide testing is scheduled for:

Grades 3 and 4 on March 19-23 and
Grades 5 and 6 on March 12-16 with
Make - up testing on March 26-29 .
Grade two testing is scheduled for April 30-May 4

Please schedule discretionary doctor appointments for alternate dates and assure that your child arrives to school on time. Once testing has begun at 9:10 AM, students "late to school" will not be admitted to class until testing has concluded. In addition to reviewing skills and concepts, teachers will incorporate instruction focused on developing effective test taking skills. We seek your collaboration in this area by;
    Reviewing nightly homework assignments ,
Assisting your child in mastery of basic computational facts,
Encouraging your child to read for enjoyment and
Helping your child practice new skills and
Developing effective study skills and test taking skills.
Assuring a good night's sleep, eating a healthy breakfast and
Reassuring your love and support and believing in your child's best effort!

Assuring your child's rest and nutrition, support and belief will enable him/her to relax and to keep on task during testing situations. Effective testing skills also promote reading directions carefully, answering questions in order and pacing yourself through the test sections. Your child's teacher will be sending home additional information in preparation for the statewide testing and Tips and Techniques are posted on this website.

A special Thank You to our dedicated parents who assist us in the library, in the computer room, in the classrooms and during special events. Our recent Career Shadowing Day was a tremendous success as students attested and bragged about their new information and their initial focus on career possibilities. Please join our cadre of volunteers both during the school day and "after school." The Springfield Township Home and School Association and Foundation are searching for volunteers to assist in a wide variety of programs and projects to fund and to enable activities for our children. Please call if you can help! (609-723-2479)

Parents who need to drop off their child before (8:45 a.m.) and after school (3:20 p.m.) for supervision MUST contact the Prime Time Program at 1-856-234-6200 X206. (Child care is provided by the Family “Y” of Burlington.)

Education is an on-going process. Methods and techniques are constantly revised and enhanced in order to insure the best possible education for your child. In today’s society, where there is so much to learn, it is essential that your child be taught in the most effective and efficient manner to master educational goals. To this end, our staff is collaborating with professional peers throughout the state of New Jersey to implement the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and attain the goals outlined. During the school year, a series of daytime and evening meetings will be hosted to introduce you to the mandated standards and elicit your cooperation in the education process.

Through email, phone and visits, please continue to “Keep in touch” with your child’s teachers and me. Together we “can make the difference!” Together we can provide the best opportunities possible for our children. I urge all parents to attend the Back to School Night on September 29, 2005 at 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

Please keep in touch with us (609-723-2479)
