I
consider our children to be our most precious and most valuable
resource. Therefore, as we work and plan, teach and play, we must
consistently consider our impact and influence upon our children.
Reading books and playing games enrich leisure time together. “Turning
off” the television and “turning on” meaningful family time
enhances communications. As an educator and parent, I encourage you to
involve yourself in your child’s life. Listen to your children’s
thoughts and dreams: partake in their ventures and goals.
Family involvement is a precious commodity, I
suggest that every family set up a calendar and log all activities and
events. Then carefully “craft out” some quality time for family
involvement. From spending time alone with one child at a time to
planning a family outing, the communications alone will serve as a
meaningful step.
- Set high goals and expect the best from each
family member.
- Communicate, communicate, communicate.
- Discuss good and happy events of the day.
- Brainstorm areas for growth, talk about
people and events which cause concern.
- Read, write and study together.
- Play together and emphasize language
development, problem solving and creativity.
- Teach your child to be curious and to learn.
Model a caring attitude and confident style.
- Enjoy life together! Relish the tidbits of
time “invested” in your child’s growth and development.
- Seek out resources to assist you and your
family as you strive to become all that you can be—the best that you
can be!
