Teachers in Springfield Township School District have been diligently working to update and revise district curricula. This past summer, our 5th and 6th grade teachers continued their efforts in developing our Next Generation Science curriculum.  Our sixth grade teacher spent several days writing new science curriculum aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards with our neighboring districts. The documents were created collaboratively between districts and reflect the three units: Energy, Forces, and Motion; Space Systems; and Matter and Its Interactions. Fifth grade teachers in Mansfield and Springfield also took full advantage of their summer and have already written a unit for implementation in 2017-2018.

In addition, our 5th and 6th grade ELA teachers continued their efforts by revising our existing  Balanced Literacy Curriculum. Our revisions included close reading lessons in our reading units and an immersion lessons in our writing units.

Throughout the 2016-2017 school year, we will continue to collaborate with the neighboring school districts to construct the curriculum aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards.   Sixth grade will implement the curriculum they worked so hard to develop this year. Our science committee for grades 2-4 will continue the work they started last year. We will be working with the regional districts to build our curriculum in grades K-5 as well. We've also added Gizmos, an online tool that provides students opportunities to integrate the three dimensions of science into daily instruction.
