NJSLA
New Jersey is beginning its transition away from the PARCC assessments and will implement, starting this year, the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment for English Language Arts & Literacy (NJSLA-ELA) and the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment for Mathematics (NJSLA-M). While the name has changed, as have the total testing times required for students, these assessments will still be delivered digitally through the PearsonAccess portal. Question formats will remain in the same format as with the PARCC and will be fully aligned to our state standards; therefore, the new assessments will allow for continued vertical articulation of data.
We'll continue to update this portion of our website as the transition away from PARCC continues. In the meantime, please check out the link below for additional information regarding the NJSLA for ELA & Math, along with an opportunity to access tutorials and practice assessments.
Students in grades 3, 4, 5, & 6 will take the NJSLA for ELA & Math in Spring 2020
Our school schedule will be available here at a later date.
On September 17, 2019 the Springfield Township School District NJSLA Results for the Spring 2019 administration were presented at the Board Meeting. Please click here to view the slideshow presentation in PDF format.
Can a student “opt-out” of the NJSLA assessments?
As stated in New Jersey Department of Education Commissioner David Hespe’s October 30 memo, federal requirements mandate New Jersey develop a Statewide assessment in reading, writing, and math, and that local school districts administer these tests to all students in grades 3-12. In accordance with the above, Springfield, like all NJ districts, cannot offer an opt-out option for State mandated assessments. To help foster a positive transition to these new assessments, Springfield Township School will provide opportunities for families to learn about the proposed merits of NJSLA and the district’s plan to train staff, administer the assessments, and use the results to strategically inform teaching and learning.
Please refer to Springfield Township School's NJSLA Procedures for District information.
